Major Arcana

Major Arcana

A project

                                        BEHIND THE SCENE

I’ve always loved playing cards and games, and out of curiosity, I began studying the captivating imagery on Tarot and Oracle cards, delving into their symbolism.

For years, I’ve been fascinated by the language of the subconscious, which led me to explore its symbolism. I started with the basics and later became intrigued by archetypes. This interest drove me to read the works of Carl Gustav Jung and Marie-Louise Von Franz, who also explored the connection between fairy tales and the psyche.

In late 2019, my first children’s book was published—a product of my early exploration of myths, legends, and the symbols associated with them: Les Livre des Animaux Magiques (Editions du Ricochet). Alongside this, I also incorporated aesthetic and anthropological research into my work, culminating in the Tarot de Marseille deck.

Some time ago, feeling the need to visually define my psychological journey, I focused on the Major Arcana card, Strength (11). This image—almost a mandala representing my circumstances at that moment—prompted me to reflect on the profound importance of delving deeper into the Major Arcana. I decided to begin by redesigning the Tarot de Marseille cards to better understand their symbolism.

The year 2020 provided me with the time to return to painting. While continuing my studies, reading, and work, I reimagined and re-illustrated the 22 Major Arcana.

These images are fully painted and original.

INSPIRATIONS

A major source of inspiration was The Garden of Tarots by the great master Niki de Saint Phalle in Tuscany, as well as the research conducted by Jodorowsky and Philippe Camoin on the Tarot cards, which involved redefining the color choices with greater attention.

Of course, I was also influenced by the work of Jean Noblet, Oswald Wirth and his writings, as well as Nicolas Conver and Jacques Vieville.

I also studied the Tarot cards of the great Antonio Possenti, a free interpretation of the 22 Arcana by Emanuele Luzzati, as well as those by Domenico Balbi.

The cards reveal a whole world of aesthetics, symbols, and meanings, opening doors to new realms I have yet to explore. I have only just begun.

This is the first stage of a project I hope will one day result in the creation of my own deck of Horoscope Cards.

And here you can read the interview that Picame Mag did with me about this project.

Dante’s Commedia

THE DIVINA COMMEDIA

I have a deep admiration for Dante Alighieri, the father of the Italian language, and I am especially fascinated by his masterpiece, The Divine Comedy.

Between 2009 and 2010, I created a series of 36 collages inspired by Dante’s Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. You can view a selection of them here.

In 2010, my work was celebrated with three exhibitions at the Spazio Papel Gallery in Milan, where three limited-edition luxury boxes paid tribute to my interpretations of The Divine Comedy.

Since La Commedia has always been a source of inspiration for me, I decided to honor Dante on the 700th anniversary of his death by expanding my portfolio and this webpage with new digital artworks.
