ABOUT
Chiara Dattola lives and works in Milan and has been collaborating with Hystrio magazine – designing several covers – since the very beginning of her career.
Since 2000, she has worked across editorial illustration, design, and visual communication, mainly for international clients. She defines herself as a visual storyteller, as she loves to tell stories through every image she creates.
During the development of an illustration or a visual narrative, Chiara dives deep into the meaning and message she wants to convey.
Color is one of the defining features of her stylistic identity: the interplay of disharmonies and contrasts – or, conversely, of subtle tonal harmonies – gives rise to ever-changing chromatic symphonies.
Dattola also creates illustrated books for children and young adults – translated worldwide – and is currently developing full-author projects in art and illustration for broader audiences.
Her works have been featured in both group and solo exhibitions, in Italy and abroad.
Alongside her artistic practice, Chiara Dattola leads drawing and visual communication workshops for both adults and children, in collaboration with public and private institutions, academies, art schools, and established companies.
In 2022, she founded SMALL ACADEMIA, an independent educational project devoted to drawing, imagination, and the discovery of the self through inner imagery.
As of 2025, part of the SMALL ACADEMIA workshops are focused on the exploration of Milan and are included among the Experiences offered by selected professionals through the Airbnb Experiences platform.
